The Logic Behind Diagonal Scale Fingering
What was the question?
Simon asked about the specific fingering for the diagonal scale. He wanted to understand how to handle the movement across the strings (1, 2, 6 fingerings) and the transition points on the fretboard.

The core idea (in plain English)
You do not need to memorize unique shapes for every set of strings. The guitar allows us to use a diagonal structure. The scale pattern on the guitar essentially consists of notes on two strings, which then repeats itself in the next octave.
For example, in a C major scale, the notes on the first string (C, B) and the second string (A, G, F, E, D—depending on your starting point) form a shape. Once you play that two-string grouping, you perform a position shift and play the exact same physical shape for the next octave on the higher strings.

Fretboard breakdown (what to play)
Identify the Root: Start with C on the lower string.
Two-String Cell: Play the scale tones available on that string and the adjacent higher string. This includes your "Ti-Do-Re" and "Mi-Fa-Sol-La".
Shift Diagonally: Move your hand up the neck to the next set of strings.
Repeat the Shape: Apply the exact same fingering you just used. The position usually corresponds to the next octave root.
Fingering Choice: You can use your pinky for stretches or shift your hand position ("pinky chinchin") to keep the movement fluid.

Common mistake to avoid
Many beginners try to stay in one "box" position, forcing awkward stretches or memorizing completely different shapes for the same notes. The diagonal approach embraces the guitar's tuning to keep fingering consistent.
A 10-minute practice assignment
Take the C Major scale. Find the C on the 5th or 6th string. Play the first octave using two strings. Then, slide your hand up diagonally to find the next C octave and play the exact same fingering shape. Repeat this up and down the neck until the glowing "diagonal line" becomes visible to your eye.
